🇩🇿 Today on 7th September, #Algeria is holding presidential elections amidst the continued marginalization and criminalization of the #Amazigh people. 🚨 The Algerian government still refuses to officially recognize the Amazighs as #IndigenousPeoples, although they are estimated to make up a third of the country´s population. 📄 Despite #Tamazight (the Amazigh language) being recognized as a “national and official language” in Algeria´s Constitution since 2016, the Amazighs are increasingly faced with discrimination. State policies and laws, such as the 1992 Law of Arabization, seriously violate their rights to freely exercise their cultural customs. 📢 After his visit in September 2023, the #UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, Mr. Clément Nyaletsossi Voule, expressed concern that assertions of regional identities are presented as a threat to national unity and security. In April 2023, traditional ceremonies celebrating the Amazigh Spring were violently prevented by the police. 👉 Learn more in the Indigenous World 2024: https://bit.ly/3yKYFqY #UNSRIP #humanrights

Case Study: The #ArabSpringThe #Arab #Uprising Challenges Middle East’s #Authoritarian #RegimesOn December 17, 2010, a Tunisian street vendor named Mohamed #Bouazizi set himself on fire in protest of his government’s endemic corruption and abuses of power. His self-immolation struck a chord with young people around #Tunisia and the #middleeast and, within days, sparked protests across the region as millions demanded #political, #economic, and #socialreforms from #governments that were chronically unresponsive to their needs. Such shows of #civil disobedience had been extremely rare in countries where authoritarian leaders forbade political dissent. The protests (collectively referred to as the Arab uprisings, though also known as the 2010 Arab Spring) took different trajectories. Tunisia successfully transitioned from #authoritarianism to a fragile #democracy. #Egypt held its first democratic presidential elections in 2012, only to see a #counterrevolution return the country to #militaryrule one year later. Today—a decade after the first Arab uprisings—most ruling power structures remain in place, few reforms have actually taken root, and countries such as #Libya, #Syria, and #Yemen have descended into #civilwar. Nevertheless, new protests broke out in 2019 in #Algeria, #Iraq, #Lebanon, and #Sudan, countries that had been quiescent during the original Arab up.By Council on Foreign Relations ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGVKX6chHafed Al-Ghwell Foreign Policy Institute, Johns Hopkins SAIS

When will the United Nations accept the existence of Article 80 which guarantees that Jews have the UNALTERABLE RIGHT to live ANYWHERE in Palestine, in the region between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea?This legal right allows Jews to live anywhere in Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria, AND in Gaza. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) reaffirmed the meaning and validity of Article 80 in three separate cases; the dates included 1950, 1971, and as recently as 2004.Therefore the Jewish right of settlement is in the WHOLE of western Palestine from the area west of the River Jordan. They are parts of the mandate territory, now legally occupied by Israel with the consent of the Security Council.”“Under international law, neither Jordan nor the Palestinian Arab people of Judea & Samaria or Gaza have any substantial claim to the sovereign possession of the occupied territories.”Arabs were never granted political rights under the Mandate for Palestine, only Jews. The reason for that is because Arab political rights were granted in 4 territories: Iraq, Lebanon, Transjordan (later Jordan), and Syria.

The statements made at the African Union summit reflect the deep concern and condemnation by its leaders towards the situation in Gaza. Moussa Faki, the chair of the African Union Commission, and Azali Assoumani, the president of the Comoros, have expressed their views strongly, highlighting the severity of the situation.Faki’s statement underscores a belief that Israel’s actions are a violation of international humanitarian law, and he uses strong language to convey the gravity of the situation. Assoumani’s comments indicate support for South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, and he too condemns what he describes as a genocide. However, it’s important to remember that these are their perspectives on a highly complex and sensitive issue. The situation in Gaza and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict involves a multitude of viewpoints and narratives. Israel, for instance, would likely contest these characterizations, arguing that they are defending themselves against militant attacks. In such complex situations, it’s crucial to consider multiple perspectives and to engage with a wide range of sources in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation. It’s also important to advocate for peaceful resolutions and respect for human rights on all sides.#Gaza#genocide#palestine#africa #emerfalen

I'm unclear why nobody in power around the world appears to be aware of United Nations Article 80..... Under it, the Mandate for Palestine was recognized by the United Nations - guaranteeing Jews the UNALTERABLE RIGHT to live ANYWHERE in mandated Palestine, in the region between the Jordan River & the Mediterranean Sea. Even today, this legal right allows Jews to live anywhere in Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria, AND in Gaza. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) reaffirmed the meaning & validity of Article 80 in 3 separate cases - 1950, 1971 & 2004.The Jewish right of settlement in the WHOLE of western Palestine – the area west of the Jordan – survived the British withdrawal in 1948. They are parts of the mandate territory, now LEGALLY OCCUPIED by Israel with the consent of the Security Council.”“Under international law, neither Jordan nor the 'Palestinian Arab' people residing in Judea, Samaria & the Gaza Strip have a substantial claim to the sovereign possession of the occupied territories.”Arabs were never granted political rights under the Mandate for Palestine, only Jews. The reason for that is because Arab political rights were granted in 4 territories only: Iraq, Lebanon, Transjordan (later Jordan) & Syria.

It is important to promote peace, diplomacy and cohesion to help save lives and enhance prosperity especially in era dealing with grand global challenges. On 18th March, the Presidency opened the Second Session of the Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government, organised by the African Union Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, and Peace and Security Council. The Accra Declaration expresses effectively our commitment to address comprehensively the underlying drivers of unconstitutional changes of governments, particularly the aspects of governance deficits, and the manipulation of democratic processes, including tampering with electoral laws, constitutional provisions, and term limits with the goal of benefiting at the expense of democratic norms and principles. It appeals to Member States to respect their respective Constitutions, especially adherence to presidential term limits, and to organise free, fair, transparent and credible elections in line with national laws and international norms, as well as respecting the outcomes of elections.Aside reflections on the state of unconstitutional changes of governmen ts, the President H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his remarks touched on the ongoing war in Sudan, which is a consequence of 25th October 2021, that led to the resignation of the transitional Prime Minister Hamdock and charged the AU Department of Political Affairs, Peace, and Security to work closely with ECOWAS to identify ways to prevent the withdrawal of the states that have signalled their intention to leave.#Ghana #Africa #africanunion #peace #prosperity

🔴🇵🇸🇮🇩 Indonesia Urges Breakthrough in Granting Special Rights to Palestine at The Emergency Session of The United Nations General AssemblySaturday, 11/May/2024🌐🔗 https://lnkd.in/gTJ24uaMWith Palestine's increasing role towards full UN membership, it is hoped that the political visibility of the Palestinian issue and struggle will increase. This is expected to facilitate and expedite the re-submission of Palestine's application for full membership to the UN Security Council, especially considering that the resolution also acknowledges that Palestine meets the criteria for full membership as per the UN Charter. The General Assembly session on Friday (10/5) began following the veto by one permanent member of the UN Security Council on Palestine's application for full membership on April 18. In response to the collective call from Arab states, the OIC, and the Non-Aligned Movement, the UN General Assembly has taken decisive steps towards advancing the Palestinian struggle and international peace efforts. Today's success is also supported by Indonesia's active role in rallying support from countries across various regions. This success is a breakthrough for the equal rights of the Palestinian people amidst the nations of the world. At the same time, efforts for Palestine's full membership in the UN in the future will continue to be pushed forward.❇️ APPENDICES.
